About the Orillia Big Band

The Orillia Big Band is a full 21‑piece ensemble featuring five trumpets, five trombones, five saxophones, a full rhythm section, vocalist, and flute player. With a wide‑ranging playlist that spans classic jazz, 1950s favourites, and high‑energy dance music, the band brings a vibrant, big‑band sound to audiences of all ages.

Proudly rooted in the community, the Orillia Big Band performs at local venues including St. Paul’s Event Centre, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34, the Orillia Rotary Aquatheatre, and several Orillia retirement residences. Whether on stage, outdoors, or in intimate community settings, the band delivers lively, nostalgic, and crowd‑pleasing performances that celebrate the spirit of Orillia.

Our conductor is Randy Hoover who is a well known local trumpet player, Randy has a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario as well as a Master's of Education degree from St. Mary's University. He holds an Associate Diploma from the Royal Conservancy of Music in Trumpet Performance.

Welcome to the new Orillia Concert Band Season!

On Saturday October 17, 2026, the Orillia Concert Band will host our annual fundraiser concert with the participation of the Orillia Big Band once again. A delightful evening awaits at St. Paul’s Centre with the doors opening at 6:30 pm for a 7:30 pm start time. Refreshments will be made available by Quayles Brewery beforehand and at intermission.Thank-you, Quayles! This season opener has become an OCB tradition to kick off the season while highlighting the generosity of Orillia and Area Community in support of a good cause.

This year your support will go to North Simcoe Victim Services. This amazing organization is ready to provide immediate care and help to those in crisis across North Simcoe County. With NSVS director Lynn Thomas MC-ing, and Randy Hoover our wonderful Music Director leading both the Orillia Concert Band and the Orillia Big Band, what a fun evening it will be!
